Start Yachting - Itinerary

 

Actual itineraries will be dictated by the weather and other conditions but here's an example of what you might experience and where you might go on this course.

  • Friday evening
  • Arrive at 1800. Settle in before an explanation of the use of the heads and the galley. TEA/COFFEE. A tour of the boat and a safety briefing. Look at the tides and weather and discuss sailing plans. DINNER on board or ashore.
  • Saturday morning
    BREAKFAST. A tour of the boat and the names its important parts and other sea terms. Discuss the weather forecast and the plan for the weekend. Discuss the use of lifejackets and other safety gear. TEA/COFFEE. Depart from the marina. A run through the basic man overboard procedure. A chance to take the helm and steer the boat under power. Discuss the 'rules of the road'. Anchoring. LUNCH.
  • Saturday afternoon
    The use of winches and cleats. Hoisting sails and the 'points of sail'. Adjusting sails for different conditions. TEA/COFFEE. Sailing at different angles to the wind. Knots and their uses. Help berth the boat in a marina, moor her to a buoy or reach a safe anchorage for the night.
  • Saturday evening
    Discuss of the days activities and the next day's weather forecast. DINNER on board or ashore.
  • Sunday morning
    BREAKFAST. Check the weather, discuss the plan, depart. More man overboard practise. More sailing. Steer the boat under sail. COFFEE/TEA. Review everything done so far and repeat anything the crew wish to revise. LUNCH.
  • Sunday afternoon
    A relaxing trip back to come back alongside in the marina with you taking a full part in controlling the boat. COFFEE/TEA. Help clean and tidy the boat. Debrief the weekend's activities.
